Assembly Test Technician

Assembly test technicians are responsible for assembling different components or parts of semi-finished or finished electronic products to deliver a product that is ready to be sold in stores or other industries. They assemble parts or components to build a whole new product and perform regular test and inspection procedures to ensure that the product is formed per the specifications. 

Assembly test technicians perform complex assembly of products according to established specifications and instructions. They perform high precision calibration and advanced adjustments using testing instruments. They also develop assembly and test procedures to promote the production of quality products and monitor the functioning of all equipment and report any problems or substandard conditions to the supervisor.

What does an Assembly Test Technician do?

An assembly test technician works at manufacturing facilities where they are in charge of assembling electronic product components and subjecting them to various tests, ensuring compliance with standards and regulations. 

Although the extent of their responsibilities depends on their organization of employment, it usually includes understanding diagrams and project requirements, establishing and implementing test parameters, operating tools and equipment, maintaining records, and producing detailed reports. There are also times when they must coordinate with quality control teams, working together in a joint effort to improve production processes and results.

Assembly Knowledge

Assembly test technicians must read and understand drawings to be able to assembly equipment correctly. They also operate automated assembly equipment to perform manual equipment operation or trouble-shooting as necessary.

Dexterity

These technicians must have excellent manual dexterity of the hands and arms, as well as, a working knowledge of continuous improvement tools.

Test Equipment

These technicians perform field and/or laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials. They must complete all testing and service forms and check sheets including preparing reports for review by supervisor.

Replace Equipment

Assembly test technicians adjust and replace defective or improperly functioning circuitry and electronics components, using hand tools and soldering iron.
